Health conditions

nutritional therapy - pic of raspberriesNutritional therapy can help with an almost endless list of health conditions and symptoms. I have chosen to focus my clinical skills on a select few – those I've studied in my specialist training and the ones that I've found to be the most rewarding to work with. So if you have a problem in one of these areas then I'm confident that I can help you…

Family history and health

It's true that your genetic make-up has a big influence over your own health. Your family may have a predisposed health risk for bowel disease, fertility problems or eczema for instance. I can't do anything about your genetics, they're pretty much set in stone, but what I can do is help you understand how to reduce your risk of developing these predisposed conditions.

Nutritional therapy can help to identify your current risk factors in your present diet and lifestyle. By making positive lifestyle changes, improving exercise and focusing your diet on specific nutrients that are known to be corrective and protective, you can start to counterbalance your genetic predispositions and move towards a healthier future.

Linking food and health

The problem is that your food intake may not deliver your actual personal nutritional requirements. Small dietary imbalances in the short term can lead to larger deficiencies or excesses in the long term. This can eventually get expressed as symptoms, conditions or even actual diagnosed diseases.

Getting the right balance

Poor immunity, hormone imbalance, bowel irregularity, inability to cope with stress, sluggish metabolism and poor skin tone can all come about as a result of dietary imbalances. The good news is that by addressing your dietary imbalances you can start to feel better. For example, by getting the correct balance of soluble fibre and water into your diet you can achieve healthy regular bowel movements. By getting the correct balance between good omega fats and bad saturated fats you can start to reduce acne or period pain. It's easy when you know how!

Looking at the smaller picture

This is because many of the health symptoms, conditions or diseases that we come across in the clinic can occur as a result of micro-nutrient deficiencies. Vitamin and minerals have very special roles to play in our biochemistry. They power enzyme reactions, control cell membrane receptor sites, produce brain chemicals and are integrated into cells, tissues, glands and bones.

I'll give you lists of foods that are rich in the specific vitamins or minerals that your body requires but to help over come deficiencies linked to any symptoms or body system imbalances that you are suffering from helping to restore dietary balance for both macro and micro nutrients.

Supportive supplements

Food groups and specific nutrient rich foods aren't the only tools available to a nutritional therapist. There are a number of good quality nutrition supplements that contain herbs, vitamins, minerals and phyto-nutrients to pick from. I select supplements from a handful of companies that produce supplements at therapeutic doses, in forms that are easy to absorb, in capsule that are easy for your body to break down and in formulations that don't use cheap fillers but focus on active ingredients.
